I love using the chenille bulky weight yarn because the project goes fast and you have a velvety snuggle buddy in an evening or two! You could try a different chunky yarn but I’ve found that gauge really does change a lot when you switch yarns. Typically the head, feet and hands are stuffed, but the rest of the Snuggler remains unstuffed.
